We have been retained by the Family Office of a wealthy, locally based family to locate a professional to oversee the management of the family’s residential properties which presently consists of five private residences. Three of the properties are local: a home in Washington DC, a large farm in rural Virginia, and an historic home in northern Virginia. Two additional properties include a home under reconstruction in northern Florida and a condominium in Hawaii. This newly created position will be based in Washington DC Family Office within the headquarters of many of the family business enterprises.
This individual will function as the Owner’s personal representative in all matters related to the physical control of the family’s present and future residences.
The Position The Director will bring a high level of strategic thinking regarding family residential needs and will be expected to anticipate problems and create and implement a plan of action to meet families evolving needs. There will be a broad range of responsibilities in construction and administrative areas including zoning, permits, insurance, staff management and budgeting. Areas of oversight include managing a 12 person staff (including two experienced construction workers) in addition to architects, interior designers, real estate professionals and the outside contractors who perform maintenance and improvement of homes and out buildings, land and landscaping and internal systems such as security, HVAC, plumbing, electronics/telecommunication and electrical.
The position reports to the President of the Family Office and will consult and work directly with the family periodically to implement their vision for property improvements and management.
This position requires a degree in a related field and/or 8- 10 years experience in the building/design and/or renovation of high end properties. Candidates must possess a high degree of skill and experience in management of construction, landscape and landscape projects and trades people. Experience and understanding of budgeting is essential. Solid experience in county/municipal regulations and the permit process is required. Candidates must demonstrate an understanding of the “24/7” responsibility inherent in providing services for a family entity. Trust and absolute discretion are essential traits, as is the ability to work effectively with a wide range of people and personalities. Personal flexibility and service orientation are vital. Some travel will be required.
