Executive Coaching helps an organization's critical members -- or those with considerable potential -- to cultivate and refine the skills that have made them successful and to change behavior that might hinder their development and advancement. Human Capital Advisors believes coaching enhances an executive's "emotional intelligence" by increasing self-awareness, self-regulation and motivation, all of which impact how well he or she can lead a team or project. HCA employs a three-phase approach to executive coaching based on our years of experience and human behavior research that has demonstrated how people change through quite simple but subtle processes. The bottom line is that by employing certain practiced techniques, executives can elicit predictable behaviors that impact results. Phase One: Pre-coaching An individual must be open to the coaching process. He or she must be willing to receive, process and respond to feedback from a variety of individuals. Without this, no meaningful developmental change can occur. We don't assume the individual has received any substantive feedback or insight into how he or she is perceived. In this stage, areas for development are discussed and goals are mutually agreed upon. Phase Two: Data Gathering The goal of phase two is for the individual to recognize and be aware of how others perceive him or her. The individual learns how his actions affect others and how her role in the organization may be enhanced or diminished, given the organization's culture and goals and the immediate manager's personality. Phase Three: Coaching Behavioral changes begin to occur when the individual, working with the executive coach, applies a variety of tools that facilitate change. These tools include journals, role-playing and critical incidents that offer opportunities to apply techniques learned. Throughout the coaching process, we encourage the individual to discuss issues with the coach and others in the organization, as feedback greatly enhances the change process.
