A small but successful commercial software developer and systems integrator was led by a CEO who, while being an excellent technician and strategic thinker, lacked the interpersonal skills and perspective to lead people effectively. Control was concentrated in the CEO who held tight reins over managers and employees and who had no heir apparent. A Human Capital Advisors principal was engaged to coach the CEO on how to focus on the “human aspects” of his business, while we formulated a succession plan, designed a COO position and transitioned responsibilities to a new hire. The project was successfully completed and the company entered a period of sustained profitable growth.
